Forest School is an exciting initiative that has been celebrated widely as an excellent way for children to learn. The initial emphasis is on raising children’s self-esteem through providing an exciting, yet relaxing outdoor environment in which they work together to reach attainable and very real goals. As this takes place, the National Curriculum can be taught as it would in any other school setting. It’s school – just outdoors!
We use The Beacon’s Woodland as a base out from which we run these sessions. There is a wide range of flora and fauna in the woodland and this, added to the many diverse pockets of open land, dense undergrowth and sunny sloping banks, make it a special area for children to learn in.
